What does AI governance mean under Indian law?
India's AI governance stack in 2026 combines DPDP 2023, MeitY AI Advisory, sector regulator circulars (RBI/SEBI/CDSCO) and ISO 42001 controls.
India does not yet have a standalone AI Act. In practice, AI governance for Indian companies means: (a) DPDP 2023 for personal-data processing, (b) the MeitY March-2024 AI advisory (bias testing, labelling of synthetic content, permission for under-tested models), (c) sector-specific circulars — RBI on AI in banking, SEBI on AI in intermediaries, CDSCO on SaMD, (d) ISO/IEC 42001:2023 as the internationally recognised AI Management System. Bharat NeuroTech maps all four in a single ₹1,799 audit.
